I reckon:
- Toy Story 3
- The Election
- Recommending me the best rock bands in this country so that I can put a gig on featuring them all sometime later in the year (so far I'm thinking about approaching FOTL, Kong, Part Chimp, Joe Gideon & the shark, Pulled apart by horses, Todd, Chickenhawk...)
- The World Cup
- Which is better; 'Curses' or 'Travels...'?

Rate KONG, Part Chimp, Pulled Apart By Horses and Todd, although not seen Chickenhawk or JG&S. Rate Kong the most.
Have no interest in football and don't especially want to talk about politics.
I feel very jittery about the future of FOTL.
Toy Story 3 is very much anticipated.
Also check out Big Joan and King Alexander. Big Joan are closer to FOTL than KA, but KA are closer to Shooting at Unarmed Men, although both bands include individuals from SAUM. Both/all are very good bands.
Would like to hear Fighting with Wire, and maybe one day I will.

But which city would you have this gig?

Another vote here for Big Joan and King Alexander, two superb bands.

I've no idea really. I thought of it whilst having one of my usual 'Why don't the British Public realise how many great bands we have here?' rants over at DiS.
I suspect somewhere around London as I live there and could see it selling out at an ok sized venue. But really, right now at least, it's just a pie in the sky idea.
I'll check out those other guys too, ta folks.

Seriously I don't really know that may great bands we (UK) have at the moment, especially *new* or newly discovered, on my part, bands there are.
Much of the big name 'new' acts leave me cold. The Futureheads are probably the only ones (based on NME coverage of 'popular' bands) who I really like, if we're considering 'UK-only'. As an aside, they are touring in May, but have had 'crisis' and split from their record label.
Very ocassionally I go to a gig (Bristol, Oxford, Cardiff etc) and discover an immense band - last few years: bands like Safetyword, Vialka - http://www.myspace.com/vialka, USA is a Monster, Male&, Truckers of Husk, IronCrease%, Cat on Form$, Projections$ - only Vialka, Truckers of Husk, USAiaM are presently active.
USAiaM are US based (Load records). Vialka are possibly not British either, not that is a problem.
Apart from these rarities (eg: Big Joan unfortunately don't play much these days, and others are disbanded), and FOTL, Kong etc... there aren't many bands (active) who really light me up - unless you can educate me, extensively.
%members of Safetyword
$disbanded, now Steve Ansell plays in Blood Red Shoes
&Male, two-piece female group: Annette from Big Joan, and Rasha playing electric guitar

I'd be very interested to hear if this transpires. On paper, it sounds great.

Well I think there's a few, across various disciplines.
Electronically there's this whole dubstep movement that people love. Not really my bag, but I do like Four Tet.
But band wise, I really rate The Chap, The Phantom Band and These New Puritans. And of the mainstream ones I really like Arctic Monkeys.
There are lots more who escape me right now. I'll get back to you...

Hmmmmm, FOTL news is a bit thin on the ground indeed!
Toy Story 3? No ta.
The election? Jesus, no, they're all c*nts.
Best bands? Kong have to be up there. Just found out this lad I went to school with (he always was an egotistical twat with a rich daddy and a hair loss problem that freaked the living shit out of him) has a band. Glad to say they're doing shit and he is now totally bald. In fact, I'm not even going to name them.
World Cup? Not really news until it starts is it? I wanna go but don't like the idea of being raped, mugged and having my skin worn as a coat in South Africa. Germany seems much safer.
For what it's worth, I think Curses has better highlights on it but the overall quality of song is better on Travels.
Have the boys got a new record deal yet? If not, why not?

Silent Front are also worth seeing.

Saw them supporting Million Dead back in the day, absolutely top lads. Music-wise, i'd recommend Chickenhawk and Pulled Apart By Horses (i work with their bassist's sister, which has got to be a new Lame to Fame for any Viz readers out there). Also, there's a band called The Engines Of Armageddon (http://www.myspace.com/enginesofarmageddon) who sound like a more metal version of Kong, definitely worth seeing live if you can ![]()

For Welsh bands, how about The Joy Formidable, Strange News From Another Star (although I can't take credit for them as they're Mr.F's recommendation)... and I had another one, stupid memory. Starts with an H. Will get back to you on that one.
Right Hand Left Hand. Starts with R I know I know. Bad memory.

For Welsh bands it's worth checking out Adam Walton's show on BBC Radio Wales on a Sunday night, he's also a big fan of FotL. Should be able to get it via the BBC website in Canada...?
Offline
I can listen to the BBC but if it's a video, it won't let me watch it.
Adam's show is a good one. He was the one who got Falco to submit a weekly tour blog. Wish he could convince Falco to do a weekly studio blog.

I dreamt last night that I was going to FOTL concert, but instead of selling tickets, people who wished to attend had to make the band a pie. I was somehow out of all ingredients needed and had to resort to using pancake mix and sugar for the crust and some kind of egg custard with whiskey for filling. It was a lackluster pastry, but the band was polite despite their palpable disappointment in my culinary skill.
I may have been inspired anyway. I did end up making an experimental quasi-diet-friendly* apple tartish thing due to the fact that my apple tree was full of fruit that was due to go to waste if not used promptly. I ended up with this:
http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak … 7195_n.jpg
Camera phone makes it look like potatoes.
My boyfriend and his band have consumed that which was not the tiny piece I took for myself in something like thirty seconds and now I am pouting.
*Although it is very far from low-calorie, it's low-fat and sugarless apart from a teaspoon of maple syrup among the five apples that went in.
Offline
Mmmm pie. Depending on what type of apples you use, you really don't need to add sugar. But maple syrup is a nice touch.
Looking at the band's myspace, they really are off on holidays. They have naked females posted on their comments. tsk tsk.

let's talk about the lyrics to 'the fibre provider' and what the fuck a white hovis wigwam might exactly be about.

We may find one in a white wood.
Okay, but seriously, Hovis is a brand of bread, so being all literal and unimaginative, I assumed a white hovis wigwam was a piece of white bread folded into a cone.

it may be about a failed attempt at a summer pudding.
on the subject of fotl related dreams, i had one the other night where falco was making the audience do some sort of mad fucked up ceilidh routine. and the audience were OBEYING.

Oh and another great band to check out is Susan George Booth.
Sort of Jesus Lizard/the Fall type stuff.

Although semi-pimping my friends' new band. Don't think there is much mySpace action yet - but check out Gag Reflex.
Bassist and drummer were previously in a band called Nurse, drummer was in a band called Black Sheep, lead singer of which is a massive Frank Blank fan and a massive (like, the biggest) Mike Patton fan in all his guises (Fantômas, , Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, the famous one etc) - I just use that last points as leverage so I'm not trying to sell you duds purely because I know them.
They played an amazing first gig on Saturday - illegal as they crow-barred the locks on an old arts centre, only about 3 people knew where it was until 10 minutes beforehand where a man in a high vis jacket escorted everyone there.
They're on Facebook I think, but this appears to be absent of music.
